I must confess that this recipe came up unintentionally and it was pure luck.
I was trying new recipes from the classic brownies that are made with my Brownie Mix and one was a total disaster.
Don't think that everything you see in blogs and social media posts is perfect the first time! Even the most experienced chefs and bakers get the wrong result from time to time. Many of the most famous recipes required various tests and why not? several unsuccessful attempts until finally created and guess what? Many, so many of them were a misfit once!.
But that's what it is creating is about, right?
Yesterday I was trying to make a Brownie Waffle, and when placing the mixture in the waffle maker, it broke all -I think that the mixture for Brownie requires different proportions to get a firm waffle - In short, at the end I had a bowl full of Brownie crumbs that I rescued from the waffle maker. Since nothing that can be eaten is lost or thrown away in this house,
I decided to make a trifle out of the crumbs.
But first I needed to check what I had in my Pantry, and Found a Box of sugar free vanilla Pudding (not low carb but at least the sugar part will do-, sweetener, heavy whipping cream (I always have) and yes also a bit of dark rum from Holiday's Egg Nog -if you have little kids or want to stay on the alcohol free zone, just skip this liquor as it's totally optional
So let me show you how I ended up with the most decadent and delicious Sugar Free Carb Less Trifle out of the Misfit Brownie.
Yes! welcome to the House of the Misfit Toys - sorry Misfit Brownie ....... Trifle
Wait- what exactly is a Trifle?
Essentially a Trifle is an English dessert that needs sponge fingers or pound cake, perhaps soaked in sherry— optional I insist, only if children are not involved. It also needs jelly - I used none, a thick layer of creamy custard , and a deep layer of lightly whipped fresh cream.
The rest is all about personal preference.
My version has Mis fit Brownie Crumbles -thus the name, instead of sugary sponge fingers, Rum instead of Sherry, Sugar Free vanilla Custard and Sugar Free fresh made Whipped Cream.
A total blast!
No need to say that if you don't have misfit Brownie or Pound Cake, you can just make fresh and let it cool before assembling the Trifle. I had so Much Mis fit brownie that I will save the rest in the pantry for later "creations"
Before staring to assemble the Trifle, make the custard and let it cool down, whip the cream and set aside, garb your clear container and let's get our hands to work
You can use any recipient to make the Trifle, but believe me using a clear one (glass is even better) will make your dessert look so beautiful as you can see the colorful layers, that it will be hard to resist until dessert time!
Here is what you need to make about 4 Glasses, Mason Jars or 1 Large bowl to share
For the caky layer
3 cups of Mis Fit brownie crumbles or 6 brownies

- Finish with a thicker layer of Whip Cream
